welcome to the 2026
OKLAHOMA HMONG NEW YEAR GALLERY

purpose
In August 2026, my family and I were involved in a near-fatal car accident while traveling to Texas for my brother's graduation. In those terrifying moments, our lives flashed before our eyes. As I was being transported to the emergency room in an ambulance, my mind was filled with unanswered questions. Are we going to be okay? Is everyone alive? How is my mom? Will she make it? Not knowing my mother's condition and where my other family members were was one of the most frightening feelings I had ever experienced. I remember thinking to myself, if my mom doesn't make it, do we even have enough photographs together to remember her by? Would we have a family portrait to display at her funeral?
It was a heartbreaking thought, but one that completely changed the way I viewed life and photography. I realized that life is incredibly fragile, and everything we know and love can change in the blink of an eye. We often assume we'll have another tomorrow, another family gathering, or another opportunity to take that photograph. But the truth is, tomorrow is never promised.
mission
I made a promise to myself: to stop letting fear keep me from doing the things that truly matter. My first step was opening my very first photography booth at the 2026 Oklahoma Hmong New Year, with the intention of providing free photography services to our community.
What may have seemed like a simple photography booth held a much deeper purpose in my heart. I wanted families to have photographs they could cherish, because I knew what it felt like to almost lose someone and wonder if I had captured enough memories with them.
To everyone who stepped in front of my camera, thank you for helping me fulfill a promise that was born out of one of the scariest moments of my life.
My hope is that one day, you'll look back at these photographs and be grateful you took them. Because sometimes, the ordinary moments we capture today become the most precious memories we have tomorrow.
